APPLICATION TIMELINE
Q: When and how do I access the application for Business?
A: On or after June 15, login to ConnectCarolina and proceed to Self Service > Student Center. From the “other academic” drop-down section adjacent to your class schedule select “Apply for Change of Major/Minor.” Select “UNC (University of North Carolina) (University of North Carolina) Kenan-Flagler Undergraduate Business” from the Major/Minor drop-down. If you agree to the terms, click “I Agree” and “Submit Request.” A link to the application will be emailed to the student’s official UNC email address by noon on the following business day.
Q: Do I need to submit a major change application request if I am already a pre-Business major in Connect Carolina?
A: Yes, this process is expressing your intent to apply within a particular application cycle.
Q: When is the deadline for the application?
A: There are two application deadlines. For applicants applying to special opportunities (Luther Hodges Scholars or TREBLE) within their application to the UBP, they must submit the full application, including special opportunity supplemental materials, by 9 PM EST on Monday, August 10. If not applying to special opportunities, applicants have until 9 PM EST on Monday, August 24.
Q: Is there any advantage in submitting the application early?
A: We do encourage students to open the application soon after it opens on June 15 as they will be able to update and save their work until submission. The admissions evaluation process is not a rolling one, so students are not at a disadvantage if they submit closer to the deadline.
Q: When are decisions released?
A: Decisions are released in mid-October. We will notify applicants of the date and approximate time of decision release via email by October 1.
PROGRAM TYPE & ELIGIBILITY
Q: Can a student major in Business Administration and minor in Real Estate?
A: No, students can choose one of four Kenan-Flagler degree options: the B.S. Business Administration or one of the three minor options (Business Administration, Business of Health, or Real Estate). If a student chooses the Business major, they can complete an Area of Emphasis to achieve a concentration using their business elective credits to complement their interest.
Q: Can I apply for the major and the minor?
A: No, but junior applicants can indicate if they wish to be considered for a minor as an alternative if not admitted for the major given that this will be their final opportunity to apply.
Q: Are students still eligible to apply if they have more than one prerequisite in-progress for the fall?
A: Yes, but we caution students from taking too many quantitative prerequisites in one semester. Sophomores may choose to push a remaining prerequisite to Spring 2027 semester. If admitted, they would be considered a conditional admit until the prerequisite is fulfilled.
Q: What is conditional admission?
A: It is simply a term used internally to identify students admitted with a prerequisite remaining after the intended start term. Students will schedule a time to meet with our team so that we can review the terms of the agreement, which typically involves a reduction in the number or type of business courses taken alongside the remaining prerequisite to ensure successful matriculation.
Q: Can I apply for both TREBLE and Luther Hodges Scholars (formerly known as Kenan Scholars)?
A: No, students must choose one.
APPLICATION COMPONENTS
Q: Are there any required/optional letters of recommendation?
A: No, we do not accept recommendations.
Q: How do I decide which organizations to include on my resume?
A: We want your one-page resume to best reflect you, your interests, and your recent work experience and involvement. Consider the activities where you dedicate your time and energy. Think about areas where you have shown leadership, explored your business interest, and made an impact. UNC Career Center is a great resource to bring resume drafts for additional support and guidance.
We also offer students additional form pages to include a comprehensive listing of past work experience, activities, and awards, so we suggest including your most recent on your resume and the comprehensive listing within the form.
Q: Can I meet with an admissions representative to review my application materials?
A: As a rule, we do not review application materials prior to submission. However, we encourage applicants to utilize the various resources on campus such as the UNC Career Center and UNC's Writing Center. We continue to offer Virtual Drop-In hours through April and to open again this summer for quick questions related to the application. See the schedule and additional resources linked on our Pre-Business Resources landing page.
