Niki (UNC '15) and Ritika Shamdasani of Sani
Sisters Niki and Ritika Shamdasani founded Sani, a South Asian-inspired fashion brand, in 2017 with the goal of creating the outfits and shopping experience they always wished they could find for cultural clothing. Niki and Ritika saw a need in the market for consumers to be able to conveniently access the best of South Asian fashion in the United States and that mission has led to a first-of-its-kind partnership with Rent the Runway, features in Business Insider, NBC, and Good Morning America, and a loyal following of 75,000 on TikTok.

Niki founded Sani after starting her career in venture capital and consulting. She graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill as a Morehead-Cain Scholar in 2015 and then joined Deloitte’s federal consulting practice. Soon after, she was asked to come on as the Chief of Staff at Matter, a startup accelerator for early stage media companies. She left Matter in 2017 to start Sani.

Ritika was a high schooler in Fayetteville, North Carolina when Sani was founded. Through summers spent with Girls Who Code, Kode with Klossy, and Amazon, she cultivated her interest in technology x fashion. She is now studying Fashion Development and Product Management at North Carolina State University, where she is a Park Scholar.

We will explore questions pertaining to the development of a consistent brand that speaks to the many facets of our working selves while addressing concerns of fit and vulnerability. Questions grounded in how we represent our individuality, values and viewpoints will be woven into an interactive discussion centering on how we can move beyond being a good fit to a brand demonstrating how we are a cultural add.
