Activities, Honors and Experience form-based sections
We expect overlap in the resume and the form-based sections (activities, experience and involvement) of the application. The form entries are less formal in nature and provide an option for applicants to include descriptions, duties, etc. that may not be included in a formal resume It is completely up to the student as to how far back they report, but most students will include significant involvement and work experience prior to university, especially if they lack room to do so on their one-page resume.
Essays Essays may vary depending on your selections within the application. For example, Luther Hodges or TREBLE will find additional prompts under the supplemental programming tab.Additional Information The additional information essay should be used for any extenuating circumstances or information or insights that would be helpful for the admissions committee. For example, students dealing with a loss or illness that has impacted their ability to perform in or outside of the classroom. Transfer students and re-applicants are also encouraged to provide the committee with an informal update on their circumstance, which is located on the "Essay" page of the application.
Essay Formatting Essays submitted via uploaded material are suggested to be formatted single-spaced using 12-point font. Please include your last name and PID in the header or top right corner of each essay upload. Word or PDF are accepted. Aside from the formatting preferences stated above, applicants are encouraged to use their best judgement for additional questions related to formatting or file name convention. Please view the application workshop video for some additional guidance. However, the UNC Writing Center should be the official source for writing support. Please see the plethora of online resources provided within their website.
How does TREBLE work? Admitted TREBLE scholars take courses as a UNC cohort in the spring of their sophomore year. Beginning with the fall junior semester, the UNC TREBLE students are joined in Chapel Hill by TREBLE scholars from both SMU and CBS campuses. This cohort of 45 students live and study at SMU in the spring junior semester and at CBS in the fall senior semester. All students return to their home campus for classes and graduation in the spring of senior year. Am I eligible for TREBLE? TREBLE applicants must be accepted to the UBP apart from consideration to the TREBLE program. The TREBLE application is only available to sophomore applicants to the major program, eligible for spring entry term (all prerequisites must completed prior to the start of the spring semester) Selected participants must be in residence (not studying abroad) for spring of their sophomore year The TREBLE program entails an 18 month commitment with residency in Singapore and Denmark two of the three semesters. Applicants may only apply to either TREBLE or Luther Hodges Scholars. How are TREBLE applicants evaluated? Sophomore students pursuing the business major must apply through the business application. If you choose to apply for the TREBLE program, you will be prompted to complete an additional essay pertaining to your interest in TREBLE . How do I know if I am selected to interview?
Shortly after regular admissions decisions are released, you will receive a decision regarding your status as a TREBLE applicant. Should you be selected as a TREBLE finalist, you will be invited to participate in a mandatory additional interview process.
Selected TREBLE finalists will be expected to participate in virtual TREBLE interviews on Wednesday evening, October 15 from 5:00-7:00pm ET. Interviews will be conducted over Zoom to allow alumni to participate from locations around the world.
What should I expect in terms of the cost of TREBLE? All UNC students selected for the TREBLE program are awarded a total of $6,000 in scholarships to help offset the costs of participation. If admitted to the program, you will receive $3,000 for the Singapore spring semester and $3,000 for the Copenhagen fall semester. Learn more. Will I be at a disadvantage if I miss out on valuable on-campus recruitment opportunities while abroad? The TREBLE program format has been in operation for 20 years and allowed students to successfully network and interview for both internships and permanent employment during the 18-month format. While recruitment activities while abroad require planning and communication, the opportunity to talk about studying business on three continents helps candidates stand out from the rest of the pool. Can I pursue a Double Major, Minors or AOE's as a TREBLE Scholar? All study options are possible, with prior planning and realistic expectations. TREBLE candidates should discuss the implications of the program with both their main campus advisor and advisors at Kenan-Flagler to determine their individual action plan.
Can I receive a scholarship to participate in TREBLE? All UNC students selected for the TREBLE program are awarded a total of $6,000 in scholarships to help offset the costs of participation. How is TREBLE different from the GLOBE program? TREBLE is the follow-up program to the GLOBE program, which ran for 20 years in partnership with the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Copenhagen Business School. After a fall 2023 pause, the TREBLE program opens scholar selection applications in the fall 2024 Undergraduate Business Program admission cycle and will welcome the first cohort of students from Singapore Management University and Copenhagen Business School to UNC-Chapel Hill in the fall 2025. A refreshed and integrated global curriculum will emphasize cross-cultural business leadership on the three campuses. The TREBLE program will build upon an impressive legacy of nearly 1,000 GLOBE alumni living and working around the world. Joint GLOBE/TREBLE alumni programming will offer engagement opportunities for all program alumni from the US, Denmark, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
