    Assured Admission Expectations and Eligibility

Students admitted into the undergraduate business major via the Assured Admission Program (AAP) must meet the below criteria in order to continue in the program. Failure to meet the criteria listed below will jeopardize your status in the Undergraduate Business Assured Admission Program.

    • AAP students must complete all of the business school prerequisites (with a C or above) by the end of their 4th semester. Students who have completed all the prerequisites and General College requirements by the end of their 3rd semester will be able to begin business coursework in the 4th semester.
    • AAP students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 at the end of the first year at UNC. Failure to do so will place the student on probation. Summer school grades will be considered in a student’s GPA calculation. While these requirements are listed as “minimums”, we do expect your academic progress to far exceed this requirement.
    • Students in the Assured Admission Program are required to complete Assured Admission courses (BUSI 188 and BUSI 189) offered in their first two semesters at Carolina as well as participate in several networking and teamwork events their second year. Students must request permission from the Undergraduate Business Program Admissions Director if they wish to be excused from either courses.
    • Being selected for the Undergraduate Business Assured Admission Program is an honor, and students are expected to behave in a way that reflects this honor. Therefore, students will immediately lose their place in the program if any of the following occur:
      • Conviction by the UNC Honor Court
      • Academic ineligibility or other disciplinary reasons
      • Violation of the Undergraduate Business Program Student Code of Conduct
    • One major selection criteria for the AAP is a student’s demonstrated leadership abilities. We expect students to take on leadership roles at the business school to further demonstrate their ability to inspire others and have an impact. AAP students are strongly encouraged to take full advantage of the opportunities offered through the Kenan-Flagler Business School including but not limited to global programs, case competitions, career and professional development events, the Ambassador Program and student government.
At the end of year one, students will be prompted with instructions for submitting their official application for promotion to the business major or minor. Students that meet minimum requirements will receive access to a streamlined version of the application unless applying for special opportunities such as TREBLE or Luther Hodges Scholars.

If a student loses their Assured Admission status, they remain eligible to apply to the Undergraduate Business Program via the normal application process, which includes submitting an online application by the due date and participating in an admissions interview. The Admissions Committee will consider their application along with the rest of the applicant pool.

A student wishing to appeal termination of their removal from the Assured Admission Program may do so by submitting a letter to the Undergraduate Business Program Assistant Dean, Dr. Jordan Hale. The letter should include a detailed description of the situation and an explanation as to why an appeal should be granted.

An Assured Admission Participant is expected to notify the Undergraduate Business Program Office (Dr. Hale) immediately if they violate these expectations or if circumstances arise that may inhibit the participant's ability to meet the Program's expectations.

Any questions regarding these expectations should be directed to the Undergraduate Business Program Office. The staff is always available for individual counsel and will work with each Assured Admit toward a rewarding career at the Business School and in life.
